Frequently asked questions

CCTV Systems

  • What are the benefits of a CCTV System?

CCTV has a number of benefits, one of the most overlooked is Peace of Mind, however, there is also Crime Deterrence, Real Time Alerts through Remote Monitoring, Evidence Collection, Insurance benefits, Enhanced confidence, Asset Protection.

  • Why choose Hardwired over Wi-Fi Camera System?

When comparing hardwired and Wi-Fi camera systems, several key differences stand out. A hardwired system offers a stable connection through a solid data cable and a wired internet connection, ensuring consistent performance without the risk of disconnection due to weak Wi-Fi signals. While Wi-Fi systems might seem cheaper initially, they often come with ongoing subscription fees for cloud storage and Require recharging. In contrast, a hardwired system, like those with Hikvision’s HikConnect app, provides reliable monitoring, recording, and live notifications without recurring costs.

  • What will provide the best night time image?

There are two main options for night time images, Infrared (IR) and full time colour (ColorVu). They each have their own purpose but where possible we suggest that you install a ColorVu Camera, this will provide you with a detailed colour image in low lighting, allowing you to add detail to any descriptions of vehicles and people that can not be given with your standard IR black and white image. • What is the best camera?

Put simply, the best camera is the camera that suits your needs. Every camera has its own purpose. Depending on what you want out of the footage your camera captures will determine what camera we recommend to install.

    We can provide:

    • Vehicle and Human Detection
    • Line Crossing/Intrusion Detection
    • Auto Tracking
    • Patrol
    • Facial Recognition
    • Licence plate Recognition
    • Thermal
    • Animal Behaviour/Animal Counting
  • Will I be able to view live on my phone?

Using the HikConnect app you are able to view live cameras and receive notifications when you are away from the home, provided that there is a local internet connection at the Network Video Recorder.

  • What is the subscription fee?

$0.00! The biggest benefit of the HikConnect App is there is no ongoing subscription fee to use it. Once you pay for it, You own it!

Alarm Systems

  • What do alarm systems cost?

Every system is a little bit different, we choose not to have set pricing for our Security systems. Depending on the property and the needs of the customer we can give you a free personalised quote. Contact us here (link to contact form)

  • What are Zones and why are they important?

Consider a ‘Zone’ as an area in which you want to protect. For example your whole house is a zone, when no one is home you can arm every device within your home. However, what happens at night, generally we all move around inside the house but not generally outside the house. We can create a perimeter zone that will arm all devices that are monitoring the perimeter of the house leaving the interior sensors disarmed so you may freely walk around the house.

  • What's better, wired or wireless?

Both have their purpose, a wired alarm relies on mains power and will require a cable run to each device. Wireless relies on a battery and will require changing when it dies, although these have their purpose when an area does not have a crawl space to hide the wires we can implement a wireless system. We offer a Hybrid system, which is a combination of both wireless and wired devices.

  • Should I have Third Party Monitoring?

Third party monitoring is a great option, however, it does create an ongoing fee. We here at RDH are able to source a third party company to monitor your system 24/7. Alternatively, all systems are accessible in the HikConnect App, any triggers on your security system will notify you directly via the App. Certain devices can provide you with photographic and video confirmation, allowing you to make informed decisions of your next step.

Starlink Systems

  • What is Starlink?

Starlink is a satellite internet constellation developed by SpaceX. It can provide high-speed, low-latency internet access to remote areas.

  • How does Starlink work?

Starlink uses a network of satellites in low Earth orbit to transmit internet signals to user terminals on the ground. This means that it can be a good solution in regional areas without phone or internet access.

  • What kind of speeds can I expect from Starlink?

Starlink offers download speeds typically ranging from 50 to 250 Mbps and upload speeds from 10 to 20 Mbps. Actual speeds can vary depending on factors like location and network congestion.

wireless Systems

  • What is WiFi?

WiFi, short for Wireless Fidelity, is a technology that allows devices to connect to the internet or other networks wirelessly.

WiFi works by transmitting radio waves between a WiFi router and WiFi enabled devices.

A WiFi router is a device that broadcasts a wireless signal, allowing devices to connect to the internet.

  • Do I need both internet and WiFi?

The words internet and WiFi are often used interchangeably but actually they are not the same thing.

    • Internet: This is the broader network that connects devices globally. It allows you to access things like websites.
    • WiFi: This is a wireless technology that allows devices to connect to the internet (or other networks) without physical cables.

You typically need both to access the internet wirelessly. You pay your internet service provider (ISP) for the internet connection, then your WiFi router connects your devices to it wirelessly.

  • Can you make phone calls with WiFi?

Yes, you can make phone calls using WiFi. Many smartphones and other devices support WiFi calling. This can allow you to make and receive calls over WiFi.

This is especially useful in rural areas. These places often have poor phone coverage or nothing available at all.
